Prof Iain Moppett Iain Moppett is Professor of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Nottingham, a Consultant Anaesthetist at Nottingham University Hospitals, and deputy director of the Health Services Research Centre of the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia.

He has a long-standing interest in improving care for people with hip fracture through research, audit and quality improvement. Away from hip fracture, he is the Safe Surgery Lead for Nottingham University Hospitals and has a burgeoning research interest in improving peri-operative safety. He has a particular interest in Never Events in surgery, what they tell us about safety and how they should influence our practice. A common thread, is trying to understand what outcomes matter to patients.

At the Health Services Research Centre, he is leading work on big data in perioperative medicine, and how outcomes vary between and within centres.
