The Edinburgh Anaesthesia Festival (EAF) is the largest Anaesthesia meeting in Scotland. The three‑day programme includes a combination of national and international speakers delivering topical lectures on a wide variety of anaesthesia, intensive care and pain medicine related subjects.

The Royal College of Anaesthetists is celebrating 25 years since gaining its Royal Charter. As part of their celebrations they have chosen to support and sponsor this year’s Edinburgh Anaesthesia Festival.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Dr Brian Cuthbertson - Chief of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Professor at the University of Toronto
  • Dr Brendan Carvalho - Chief of Obstetric Anesthesia and Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Stanford University, California.
  • Dr Anders Perner - Senior Staff Specialist and Professor in Intensive Care at Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen and an honorary Professor of the George Institute in Sydney.

The Venue

Following the huge success of previous years’ meetings, our 31st Edinburgh Anaesthesia Festival is moving to a larger auditorium in the world class Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC). The EICC is right in the heart of the city centre and a short walk from a great selection of three, four and five star hotels.

The City

An UNESCO World Heritage Site, the capital of Scotland is an architectural mixture of medieval wynds and neoclassical elegance – a beautiful and historic city which comes alive in August…. the Edinburgh Anaesthesia Festival has been arranged to coincide with the world famous Festivals: Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Edinburgh International Book Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival.

Social

All delegates are invited to our Welcome Drinks Reception, sponsored by Tilney, at the EICC on Wednesday 16 August 2017, following the first day of talks – a fantastic chance to network with peers and speakers. No need to book.

The annual Edinburgh Anaesthesia Festival Dinner will be held on Thursday 17 August, 8pm and starts with a Drinks Reception and private viewing of Caravaggio - revolutionary artist of the Italian Renaissance at the Royal Scottish Academy (Mound, Princes St). Three courses of fine Scottish Dining follow with various Scottish touches, eg bagpipes, a short recital of works by Scottish bard Robert Burns and a "Whisky Tasting" experience. The dress code is "smart" although formal attire is welcome. Booking is essential, likely to sell out.

Accommodation

Take advantage of early bird rates with various hotels throughout Edinburgh. The conference Centre is a 5 minute walk away from many 3, 4 and 5 star hotels. (Please see “Links Tab” for booking sites).
