Workshops 2024
NEW FOR 2024:
We are proud to present our practical regional anaesthesia and vascular access educational early bird workshop, featuring state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, phantoms, live scanning, needle trainers and expert facilitators.
The workshop takes place on the 2nd day of EAF 24, before the main meeting starts - Thursday 22 August from 8.30 – 9.15 am. Only 5 delegates are allowed per station to maximise hands-on experience.

1) Upper limb orthopaedics
- Discussion with experts on when to use blocks for common upper limb surgeries from the shoulder to the hand
- Considerations for catheter placement
- Practice scanning plan A blocks: Interscalene and axillary

- Discussion with experts on when to use blocks for common lower limb procedures from the thigh to the foot
- Considerations for catheter placement
- Practice scanning plan A blocks: Femoral, adductor canal and popliteal

- Discussion with experts on when to use blocks for common elective general surgical procedures as well as blocks for emergency procedures such as laparotomy
- Considerations for catheter placement
- Practice scanning plan A blocks: rectus sheath
- For those with paediatric interest: Lateral QL (paeds plan A)

- Discussion with experts on when to use various blocks for common elective chest wall procedures or analgesic blocks for rib fractures

- Practice inserting vascular access using the out-of-plane dynamic scanning technique
- Practice inserting vascular access using the in-plane technique
- PICC and mid-line insertion

- Practice needling skills on our state-of-the-art phantoms that mimic different blocks using NRfit needles
- NRfit catheter kits available for familiarisation and practice catheter insertion

Learning Objectives for the Workshop
- Improve knowledge and understanding of common blocks performed for common procedures on their respective lists with our summary handout and Q&A with our experts
- Hands-on guided experience scanning for the plan A block associated with the respective lists
- Practice and enhancement of needling skills with our phantoms
- Acquire or improve the skill of out-of-plane dynamic scanning for vascular access
- For those with paediatric interests, there is also the opportunity to chat about paediatric lists/blocks with our expert faculty
