Dr Alistair Macfie

Dr Alistair Macfie Alistair Macfie is a consultant in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and intensive care at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital (GJNH) in Clydebank. He is currently the Associate Medical Director of the surgical division. Alistair, an Edinburgh graduate from Kirkcaldy was consultant at the Western Infirmary of Glasgow for 14 years before the cardio-thoracic services for the West of Scotland moved to the GJNH. He has specialist interests in thoracic anaesthesia and the critical care management of advanced heart failure particularly those requiring heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. He has also an interest in echocardiography.

Alistair is an honorary senior lecturer at Glasgow University and has lectured and published widely. He was an author of the BTS guidelines on the surgical treatment of lung cancer and co-editor of the Handbook of Cardiothoracic Critical Care. In recent years he has been the secretary and treasurer of the Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists (ACTA) and president of the Glasgow and West Society of Anaesthetists.
